Itchy, Itchy, Scratchy, Scratchy, Dry, Dry, Dry

Updated: Jan 20

I swear ladies we are invincible Queens. This dry itchy skin, dried out vagina foolishness ain't nothing to play with. I'm on a mission to get this body together. So, like everything that is going on with your body during menopause it is all linked back to HORMONES (get used to this word because it is the root to EVERYTHING!). Estrogen helps us to function during perimenopause and menopause estrogen production begins to diminish and this is what can cause dry, itchy skin because your body reduces oil production and its ability to retain moisture, which also means that your skin can wrinkle faster.

So, like everything that is going on with your body during menopause it is all linked back to HORMONES (get use to this word because it is the root to EVERYTHING!). Estrogen helps us to function during perimenopause and menopause estrogen production begins to diminish and this is what can cause dry, itchy skin because your body reduces oil production and its ability to retain moisture, which also means that your skin can wrinkle faster.

Here Are Some Tips:

o No More Hot Steamy Showers, I know, I know, I know!!! Listen I am just as disappointed as you are. I LOVE hot showers I remember when I was dealing with endometriosis, during my menstrual and during a flare-up I would take hot showers because it would be like a heating pad all over my body afterward, I would curl up in my bed on my heating pad. Although I haven’t had signs of endometriosis hot showers are just my things, but I started to notice my skin becoming extra dry and I would also be itchy at night even after using my oil. I have not switched to cold showers, but my showers are no longer hot and steamy they are very mild/cool I must say this helps with the hot flashes too.

o Omega-3, refer to my blog post “Menopause & Omega-3”. Omega-3’s not only help with inflammation in the body, but it can also help to restore moisture into the body. You can get your omega-3 from supplements, fatty fishes like Salmon, for those who are vegan you can also obtain front nuts.

o Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize, after your shower and during the day make sure you moisturize properly. Since menopause I have not been able to use regular lotions, I now use natural Shea butter, I also order from a company that makes their own body butters using all-natural ingredients which include Shea. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water this also help with dry skin and vaginal dryness. Coconut oil is pretty good for the skin, scalp, and for vaginal dryness, I’ve also heard that yoni steams help a lot with dryness so, you can look into that.hed to cold showers, but my showers are no longer hot and steamy they are very mild/cool I must say this helps with the hot flashes too.

o Body Washes and Soaps, it’s not a myth soaps can be very harsh on the skin disrupting layers of your skin and removing oils that your body needs to be moisturized. If you decided to use smell good body washes find an all-natural company (don’t worry I got you).

o Face to Face, sunscreen is always a must for EVERYONE!!! No matter your skin complexion.

o Keep it Moving, I know it doesn’t seem to make sense, but exercise does help with the production of collagen which will reduce wrinkle.

Let’s combat this itchy dry skin together, Like I said above I got you. I wanted to share the company Ancient Cosmetics I purchase my body butters from, you’ve probably seen it on Instagram, they aren’t paying me for this, so you’ll have to go to their site yourself. Honestly, I love their products their oils along with the body butters are amazing and they keep my skin looking and smelling lovely. I also use a natural skincare product called pure tropix for my face that is amazing, you can find them on Instagram as well.

I hope this post helps you feel free to email me at millennialinmenopause@gmail.com with any questions you may have or topics you want me to blog about.

Blessings,

~ Amelia LadyB
